POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Executive Director Patient Care and Deputy Chief Nursing Executive, this role is accountable for contributing to the delivery of Strategy for Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) through understanding, familiarity, and corporate guidance with all pertinent KHSC policy and procedure, best/leading practices, legislation and Professional Standards. This role serves as an operational Director of Allied Health and Professional Practice and Director for Nursing, Allied Health professionals and Interprofessional Education.

This role is accountable for contributing to the delivery of KHSC’s strategy. The role must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Responsible for planning, developing and evaluating the operations/services of Interprofessional Education and Nursing Clinical Education, Respiratory Therapy, Anesthesia Assistant, Clinical Nutrition, Social Work, and Occupational Therapy & Physiotherapy.

  • Oversee budgets, resource allocation, and financial performance for all assigned portfolio, ensuring efficient and sustainable service delivery.

  • Ensuring regulated health professionals compliance with legislation, regulatory requirements, and professional practice across operations, Nursing, and allied health professions. This includes collaboration with Executives, Directors, Managers, and Physicians for all KHSC sites and services.

  • Oversees the process of Medical Directives, Delegated Controlled Acts, clinical policies, patient order sets, and clinical products for KHSC.

  • Supports academic partnerships to enhance clinical education, student placement, and interprofessional learning opportunities.

  • Participate in development of KHSC corporate and portfolio-specific strategic and operating plans. Champion innovation, continuous improvement, and excellence in care delivery and education.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Professional Credentials

  • Master’s degree in health care discipline, Business or related field.

  • Member in good standing as a Regulated Health Care Professional.

Experience

  • Ten or more years related health care experience, including three to five years in a senior leadership role.

  • Proven experience in developing, implementing and maintaining clinical practice standards and quality assurance measures in a health care environment

  • Demonstrated success in leading complex projects and change initiatives in a healthcare setting.

Leadership & Strategic Thinking

  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to align organizational, programmatic, and individual unit goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence diverse teams through transformational change while maintaining engagement and cohesion.

  • Skilled in consulting, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

Knowledge & Expertise

  • In-depth understanding of the Regulated Health Professions Act, standards of professional practice and ethical codes, healthcare consent, and the best/ leading practice literature.

  • Broad knowledge of hospital operations, governance structures, and decision-making processes.

  • Familiarity with current healthcare trends, system-level challenges, and relevant legislation and policy frameworks.

  • Knowledge of research methodologies and strategies to integrate evidence into daily clinical practice.

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire individuals and teams within a large, complex organization through transformational change while maintaining alignment with a shared vision and fostering cohesion, motivation, commitment, and high performance.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including ability to engage tactfully and diplomatically with diverse stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse management and employee groups to achieve shared goals.

  • Experience and knowledge of working with external professional bodies and associations (e.g., regulatory colleges, RNAO, CNA, RPNAO).

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word and Excel), electronic medical records, and other relevant digital tools.

  • Successful criminal background check with vulnerable sector search

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The applicant must be able to meet the physical demands of this position.

KHSC is located on the ancestral lands and waters of the Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee and serves a wider geographical area that encompasses many Indigenous communities including Tyendinaga, Katarokwi, as well as communities within the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority.
