The Role
The chief mining engineer serves as a senior technical leader and trusted expert in mine engineering at Cameco. In this strategic leadership role, you will oversee a team of highly skilled professionals, providing expert guidance to ensure the safe, environmentally responsible, and economically efficient operation of our mining assets.
In this role, you will:

Deliver technical assessments and support operational excellence across all mine engineering disciplines.

Drive innovation in areas such as mine planning, ventilation, ground control, and other critical functions in geo-technically complex environments.

Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to advance innovation initiatives and support long-term growth.
-
Assess new business opportunities aligned with Cameco’s strategic objectives.
-
Provide engineering design oversight and act as a trusted advisor to both site-level and corporate teams.
-
Contribute to capital project development through leadership in front-end engineering studies and technical report preparation.
-
Ensure all engineering work aligns with regulatory standards and corporate goals.
-
You may be required to participate in Mergers & Acquisitions due-diligence activities.
Required:
-
Bachelor’s degree in mining or geological engineering
-
10 or more years of progressive experience in hard rock and/or underground mine engineering
-
Eligibility for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
-
Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation
-
Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and complex projects
-
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
-
Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g. Deswick, Mine2-4D, MineCAD, Vulcan)
-
Understanding of mining and occupational health and safety regulations in Saskatchewan
-
Experience in conducting technical and economic evaluations for mine design, including due diligence and risk assessments
-
Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to interpret and synthesize complex geotechnical data into clear, actionable reports that support informed decision making
-
Occasional travel to our operations including northern Saskatchewan
Recommended:

Experience across multiple mining operations and jurisdictions

Background in consulting or technical advisory roles

Uranium mining experience, particularly in high-grade or challenging environments

Project management certification or equivalent experience

Working knowledge of NI 43-1014 and Qualified Person (QP) responsibilities
