About you:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the month-end close process, controllership, FP&A, and external reporting. Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, this position will have responsibilities relating to all areas of financial reporting, management reporting, bordereaux creation, and audit.

In This Role, You’ll Get To Experience:

Bordereaux (BDX) Reporting

  • Assembling and analyzing data related to the BDX and generating several bordereaux reports each month.
  • Meet the stated deadlines for bordereaux creating and reporting.
  • Payment to certain agents by the stated deadline.
  • Respond to any queries resulting from the monthly generation of the bordereaux report.
  • Cash transfer and treasury activities related to the BDX including Stripe analysis.
  • Track cash movements in trust accounts and provide reconciling entries.

General Ledger and Controllership

  • Assist in Accounts Receivable functions by supporting team members through cash application, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Reconcile the balance sheet and the outstanding general ledger accounts and prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Assist in the calculation of monthly revenue, year-end audit, and other monthly adjusting entries.
  • Accrued liability reconciliation and review.
  • Intercompany balance review and management including billing and reconciliation of KSA.
  • Assist the Senior Accounting Manager with month-end financial reporting and book close.
  • Reconcile & remit all applicable GST/HST and VAT or IPT taxes.
  • Research and correct account discrepancies.
  • Manage Fixed Assets for the entity.
  • Manage pre-paid & deposits on hand, including several claims float accounts, monthly reconciliation, and broker payments.
  • Manage F/X rates & revaluations at month-end.
  • Guide junior accountants and other staff by answering questions
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
  • Assists in the preparation of payroll: entering updates/changes, producing payroll reports, verifying the accuracy of data, identifying errors/pay anomalies
  • Participate meaningfully in identifying and implementing ongoing improvements to procedures, processes, and reporting including the use of technology solutions
  • Take ownership of delegated assignments and ensure that filing/reporting requirements and deadlines are met

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with an emphasis in Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent related experience in the field of Accounting.
  • Five years experience in an accounting position.
  • Five years of experience working with intercompany transactions and reconciliation in preparation for audit
  • Designated CPA or CPA in progress.
  • Thorough understanding of financial application security ensuring that all financial data is secure and complies with confidentiality policies
  • Must be an outstanding communicator, and have established skills in accuracy, organization, and working in a high-volume environment

  • Demonstrated ability to support all other departments within the company
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and work comfortably in an environment with multiple competing deadlines
