About the role

Your Opportunity:

The Emergency Department at the South Health Campus is a large urban department. It is comprised of an interdisciplinary department that provides care to patients of varying acuity. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the emergency department will work as an essential member of the South Health Campus Emergency Department team caring for all patients of varying acuity. The LPN participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients. The emergency department is a dynamic and a fast-paced environment. The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong prioritization and assessment skills and be able to show flexibility in a busy work environment. You will be accountable to the public for your own practice, responsible for ensuring that your practice meets legislative requirements and the practice standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

Description:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum one (1) year nursing experience in a medical/surgical acute care inpatient unit obtained within the past 2 years working greater than 0.70 FTE. Must be able to perform the physical duties of the job, including but not limited to lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50ibs and long periods of walking/standing.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in emergency or urgent care setting. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Critical thinking skills, within scope of practice, including clinical judgment, problem solving skills and strong decision-making ability. Professional interpersonal and communication skills. Effective time management, prioritization, and organizational skills. Up to date Annual Continuing Education.
