About the role

Are you a highly motivated individual looking to expand your career? We are currently looking for a passionate and motivated individual to join our Freshwater team as a Broodstock Technician in Northampton, NB. Our Northampton facility is a Atlantic Salmon broodstock facility located near Woodstock, NB. The facility currently employs 9 full time members of staff to assist in year production of salmon eggs. The site comprises of an intake system, Flow through tanks and multiple RAS egg incubation systems.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Broodstock technician role is a vital part of the salmon production process. We need our technicians to strive for continuous improvement and deliver on all aspects of hatchery work to keep the team on track and performing well.

The main job duties include, but are not limited to, Fish husbandry and handling of Brood fish; Fish health sampling; Water quality analysis; Operation of RAS incubation units; Stripping and fertilising of eggs during spawning periods; Preparation of Ova for delivery to hatcheries; Sorting and sexing of fish; and a Proactive approach to Health & Safety practices throughout the facility.

The position is permanent with a working pattern of any 5 days out of 7 and operates a weekend rota. The successful candidate will also be expected to be part of a weekly night-shift rota/ required to stay on site providing 24 hours call out cover.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate will have an interest in the aquaculture industry and be willing to learn. They will be willing to expand their understanding and work hard on the job.

  • Experience in broodstock production would be an asset, but not essential as full training and support will be provided
  • Previous experience operating RAS units
  • Work flexibly to meet demands of the job
  • Self-motivated, able to work well in a large team
  • Excellent attention to detail is essential
  • Good communication & Planning skills
  • Respect for the need for safe working practices
  • Willingness to participate in Mowi’s development and training opportunities
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
