As a key member of the accounting team, the Financial Analyst is responsible for reporting of various Opex departments. Key functions of this position include preparation of monthly financial reports and variance analysis, account reconciliations, preparation of forecasts and budgets, process improvement and general support to the accounting and operations teams as required.

Key responsibilities:

• Prepare month-end close for operating expenses, review costs center expenses for anomalies, re-class and accrue costs where applicable and prepare commentary on budget versus actuals and prior month variances.
• Coordinate, prepare and present financial reports, including month end variance analysis, budgets and forecasts for senior management.
• Coordinate the consolidation of month end report packages for department leaders and senior management with junior staff members.
• Meet independently with department leaders to review month end results and acquire information in preparation to revise 18-month forecasts.
• Conduct in-depth analysis of financial data, creating financial models, and developing forecasts to support department leaders’ strategic decision-making.
• Mentor and assist in developing junior staff members.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Commerce Degree focused in Accounting.
• 3 - 5 years of experience in an accounting environment
• Enrollment in a professional accounting designation program is considered an asset.
• Ability to complete detailed analysis while following established policies & procedures.
• Fluency in spreadsheet applications; advanced proficiency with Excel is required.
• Must be driven to consistently meet deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
• Effective problem-solving skills including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
• Detail oriented; willing to dig into the details and ask probing questions.
• Must be flexible and have a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
• Desire for continuous learning; eager to understand other areas of the business (i.e. operational aspects).
• Ability to express ideas clearly and understand the need for teamwork.
