Job Summary:
As an Autoclave Operator, you will be responsible for performing all operations required to plan, set up, load, and operate autoclaves and related equipment to cure and bond aircraft parts and assemblies to specified dimensions and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Set Up and Operation:
- Plan and prepare autoclave systems for operation, including setting up and operating auxiliary equipment.
- Load parts and assemblies into the autoclave, ensuring proper arrangement and use of jigs and fixtures for simultaneous bonding.
2. Process Management:
- Read and interpret shop orders and process specifications to determine the required bonding processes.
- Select parts and assemblies for bonding, considering processing requirements and autoclave capacity.
3. Quality Control:
- Inspect the general condition of parts and assemblies, ensuring they are correctly positioned and vacuum bag installations meet specifications.
- Connect thermocouples and vacuum lines, monitor instruments and gauges, and adjust controls as needed to maintain process integrity.
4. Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety procedures to ensure the safe operation of autoclaves and auxiliary equipment.
- Work closely with other operators to discuss loading and unloading processes, ensuring safety and process efficiency.
5. Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate manual or computerized records of autoclave operations and suggest improvements to processes and methods.
- Regularly calibrate autoclave systems and report any issues or suggestions for improvements to supervisors.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Technical Knowledge: Proficient in autoclave operations and able to perform a wide range of related functions.
- Education/Experience: Equivalent to a high school diploma with additional on-the-job training (typically around 3 months).
- Attention to Detail: High level of focus required to verify setups and monitor equipment, ensuring adherence to process specifications.
