An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Project Design Coordinator/Manager, based out of our offices in Toronto, to deliver major infrastructure and transit projects. This is a key project and design management position, working closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to deliver design of complex and critical transport infrastructure projects.

As a Project Design Coordinator/Manager, you will have a focus on delivery of critical design packages and scopes of works , reporting to the Package Lead, being responsible for planning, executing, and finalizing engineering deliverables within defined budgets, timelines, and quality standards. You will work closely with Discipline Leads and cross-functional design teams, including engineers, designers, architects, planners and stakeholders, to ensure project objectives are met and client expectations are exceeded.

This is also a client-facing role, that requires good communication skill, commercial awareness and tactful interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential project risks and develop strategies to mitigate them in conjunction with Stakeholders and other key project team members. Monitor risks throughout the project lifecycle and take proactive measures to minimize their impact.
  • Coordinate project design activities across multi-disciplinary teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth workflow, adherence to project work plans, and timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Implement quality control measures, coordinated with Discipline Leads, to ensure that project deliverables meet or exceed client expectations and conform to industry standards and the requirements of the project Design Management and Quality Plan.
  • Foster timely and effective communication amongst team members and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and deliver progress reports, project updates, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Capture, evaluate and manage project changes, including scope variations, timeline adjustments, and resource reallocations. Assess the impact of changes on project objectives and communicate effectively with all parties involved, raising early alerts to the project team and client, and feeding into the project risk management process.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to project team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Ensure team members understand their roles, responsibilities, and project goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and P.Eng in Ontario or equivalent professional designation in related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in design, coordination, and project management, specifically in the transport, aviation, or construction industry. Demonstrated experience in successfully delivering complex engineering projects is required.
  • Strong knowledge of project and design management methodologies, tools, and techniques. Ability to develop and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets effectively.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles and processes related to engineering and design disciplines, including civil, aviation, roads and transit, utilities, ). Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams. Experience in resolving conflicts and overcoming challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address project-related challenges and risks proactively.
  • “Can do attitude” with ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
