About the role

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares and tests respiratory equipment, mechanical ventilators, anesthetic gas machines and related equipment
  • Performs troubleshooting and minor repairs of respiratory and related equipment
  • Maintains accurate preventative maintenance records and data bases for quality control
  • Organizes and maintains the system of inventory control to ensure adequate quantities of respiratory and related supplies, equipment and medical gas cylinders
  • Monitors medical gas compound levels and reserve manifolds
  • Handles daily/routine storage, pick-up and delivery of medical gas cylinders throughout the hospital and replaces cylinders on medical gas manifolds
  • Ensures that related safety standards and regulations are maintained
  • Cleans, processes and assembles respiratory supplies and equipment
  • Instructs clinical students regarding the cleaning, processing, assembling, testing and repairing of equipment in addition to cylinder handling and medical gas compound monitoring

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education in healthcare or technical related field
  • 1-2 years of recent, related experience is an asset
  • Working knowledge ofpreparing and testing respiratory equipment, mechanical ventilators, anesthetic gas machines and related equipment
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and safety regulations related to transportation of medical gases
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand technical operational manuals, basic medical terminology, concepts of sterility and aseptic technique and infection control
  • Excellent communication, organizational and prioritization skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to understand and problem solve issues related to respiratory equipment, mechanical ventilators, anesthetic gas machines and their safe usage
  • Recent experience with respiratory equipment, mechanical ventilators, anesthetic gas machines, medical and specialty gases
  • Demonstrated excellent customer-focused approach to patients and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member
  • Must be physically able to perform duties requiring heavy exertion (lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs)
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the mission and values of St. Michael¿s
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance record
  • Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

**Schedule requirements:**days, evenings and weekends subject to operational demands
