As the Senior Planner, Energy Strategy, you will provide professional planning advice and recommendations on energy-related planning matters to administration, Council and its committees as well as the general public, including the development and building industry. Primary duties include:
- Develop project plans, provide progress reports and make recommendations on project delivery to leadership.
- Conduct research and technical analysis and formulate recommendations such as the investment measures (return on investment) and outputs for the Calgary low carbon economy.
- Prepare energy policies and reports and present recommendations to the appropriate approving authority. A key deliverable will include the development and coordination a Hydrogen Action Plan for Calgary and coordination of projects with infrastructure and land development.
- Provide professional energy strategy and planning advice to internal and external partners.
- Coordinate the implementation of energy planning policies by communicating changes to internal and external partners, specifically the coordination of utility companies.
- Initiate, coordinate and implement actions for the Energy Communities Project.
- Lend expertise on energy studies by participating in project team meetings, conducting research, reviewing proposals and providing expert advice.
- Mentor and manage teams, working groups and committees.
Qualifications
- A degree in Planning or a related degree recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).
- At least 6 years of progressively more responsible and varied planning experience, with preference given to candidates with 8 years of experience in roles related to integrating multiple policy considerations across the municipal planning continuum.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- Eligibility for membership in the CIP is required.
- Membership with the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) would be considered an asset.
- Experience in an urban environment, municipal infrastructure and presenting to external interested parties (citizens, industry, and approving authorities) will be considered assets.
- Preference will be given to candidates that have energy planning, policy development and implementation and engineering experience.
- Success in this role requires a strong strategic and analytical thinker with a focus on change management.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a customer-oriented and collaborative environment while adhering to tight timelines and changing priorities.
- Strong communications experience with excellent customer service skills and a demonstrated ability to build beneficial relationships, facilitate conflict resolution, and contribute to team goals.

Workstyle
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Such arrangements are based on the operational requirements of the position and employee suitability and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
