Wordpress Volunteer

Position: Website Manager / Admin Volunteer

Organization: Green Neighbours Network of Toronto

Location: Remote / Toronto‐area (occasional virtual check-ins)

Application deadline: Open until filled  

Time commitment: ~4-6 hrs / week (flexible)

Who We Are Green Neighbours Network of Toronto (GNN) is a dynamic grassroots organization that has rapidly grown to more than 1000 individual and over 50 group members since being incorporated as a non-profit in 2020. The primary goal of the Network is to encourage and support people and groups who are helping to make neighbourhoods across the City of Toronto and GTA greener, healthier, and more sustainable. Why We Need You The Site Is Built On WordPress (BuddyPress + Youzify, BbPress, Events Manager). As Traffic Grows And New Features Roll Out, We Need a Friendly “digital Caretaker” Who Can

  • keep content fresh and accurate
  • troubleshoot basic issues before they become big ones
  • support fellow volunteers who are still learning the ropes

If you like mixing sustainability with a bit of web wizardry, you’ll fit right in.

What You’ll Do

  • Site Upkeep & Content
  • Publish or schedule blog posts and homepage features.
  • Keep menus, resource links, and widgets current
  • Monitor uptime, backups, and basic security.
  • User Support
  • Answer basic “how-do-I?” questions from members (via email or forum)
  • Troubleshoot login / registration issues.
  • Create quick how-to snippets or screenshots when patterns emerge

Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • Comfortable in WordPress admin (editing pages, posts, plugins, users)
  • Basic understanding of HTML / CSS tweaks (or willingness to learn)
  • Familiarity with at least one of: BuddyPress, bbPress, Events Manager—or quick to pick things up
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive communicator
  • Shares GNN’s values of equity, inclusion, and climate action

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with Canva, Mailchimp, or similar tools
  • Light graphic editing (resizing banners, compressing photos)
  • SEO or Google Analytics know-how

Commitment & Support
