Detailed Overview
Performs a variety of duties within the cafeteria operation including preparing kitchen for service, assisting with food preparation and replenishment, serving customers food and beverages, cleaning, operation of an espresso machine/barista work and the collection and receipt of cash and meal tickets for items purchased in the cafeteria. In charge of a designated shift within the assigned area as designated by Manager, Food Services or designate.
Responsibilities
- Prepares, receives and verifies cash register float.
- Verifies cash receipts against cash register printout and balances.
- Prepares the kitchen for service by performing duties such as turning equipment on and off, putting food out, locking/unlocking doors and drawers.
- Prepares and completes bank deposit slips.
- Counts, weighs and/or measures ingredients for assigned food preparation area. Makes beverages and food items such as coffee, tea and toast. Prepares cold food items such as salads, sandwiches, and puddings.
- Retrieves food item from freezer, fridge and other storage areas, and places them in appropriate areas and/or thaws in fridge as required.
- Empties cash from dispensing machines and counts and records amounts.
- In charge of a designated shift by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments, providing related training and orientation.
- Performs cleaning tasks such as sweeping and mopping floors.
- Performs clerical duties such as answering the phone, filing and recording information according to established procedures.
- Counts and replenishes food and supply stock according to established quota/levels. Forwards concerns on food and supply stock and/or quota/levels to the Manager or designate.
- Advises Manager or designate of any inoperable, damaged, or unsafe equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training & Experience
Grade 10, plus one (1) year's recent related experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current Food Safe Level 1 certification or equivalent.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
