Job Description About the Role: As the Corporate Accountant, you will play a key role within our Accounting/Finance team with our monthly, quarterly, and annual financial/operational reporting for Wittington’s investment entities. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting, this is an opportunity to develop your career in a collaborative and dynamic environment. The ideal candidate for this role is organized, reliable and able to manage conflicting priorities within structured deadlines and deliverables.

What will you do?

  • Full cycle accounting for multiple entities, which include:
  • Initiating, preparing, and processing journal entries.
  • Completing all required month-end/quarter-end/year-end closing procedures.
  • Preparing key balance sheet account reconciliations (bank, AR, HST, etc.) and investigating/resolving differences.
  • Preparing continuity schedules (investments, fixed assets, etc.).
  • Review and process employee expense reports, ensuring amounts claimed are supportable and allocated to the appropriate legal entity and expense classification
  • Processing accounts receivable billings and cash receipts.
  • Prepare HST returns, Statistic Canada filings and other statutory filings.
  • Processing payment runs via electronic fund transfers and investment transactions via wire payments to support the daily operations of the entity.
  • Reconciling transactions to cash receipts and disbursements and investigating any variances.
  • Assist in monthly and ad-hoc investment performance reporting packages.
  • Preparation of the annual financial statements and related note disclosures in accordance with the financial reporting framework.
  • Participate in preparation and coordination of annual audits.
  • Maintain financial security by following internal controls.
  • Contribute to ad-hoc projects, as assigned by the Senior Manager.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 1-2 years in accounting/finance role or equivalent in relevant experience.
  • Experience working in the investment industry and technical accounting knowledge (ASPE) is an asset.
  • Completed or working towards a CPA designation is considered an asset.
  • Possess strong financial accounting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be highly organized, flexible, detail and results oriented.
  • Gives high priority to quality and has the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Able to work independently with some direction and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate ideas and actions to people at all levels in the organization.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel.
  • Good time management skills and reacts quickly to changing priorities.
  • Possess a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Foundational understanding of information systems and IT controls is considered an asset.
  • Experience with business intelligence software (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is considered an asset.
