We are seeking a Systems Integration Specialist to join our dynamic Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) team at any of our location in Waterloo/GTA . This is an exciting hybrid opportunity to work on complex infrastructure projects in municipal w/ww, energy, and industrial sectors that directly impact public health, sustainability, and resilience.

Responsibilities
- Data Collection and Analysis: Produce accurate reports for others by collecting data from a variety of standard sources and inputting it into standard formats.
- Solutions Analysis: Find the most effective ways to respond to routine functional inquiries. Involves following procedures and precedents.
- Applications Software Maintenance: Monitor and identify software defects and suggest corrections for approval by more senior colleagues to maintain fully functioning applications software.
- Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching. Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
- Operating Machine or Equipment: Operate complex equipment and machines, adjusting diverse variables to achieve the best possible outcomes in terms of quality and productivity. Also responsible for generating solutions to simple and recurring inefficiencies.
- Design and Conceptualization: Support others by performing prescribed design activities using existing procedures.
- Product and Solution Development: Support others by carrying out a range of product development and engineering activities, such as analyzing client situations or interpreting data.
- Operational Compliance: Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards. Obtain authorization from a supervisor or manager for any exceptions from mandatory procedure.
- Quality Assurance Testing: Carry out a specified range of complex tests to verify that specifications are met and to reject nonconforming material or articles.
Education
- Post secondary education in electrical engineering, automation, or a related discipline.
Experience
- General Experience: Minimum 5-8 + years of experience in PLC programming, systems integration, automation engineering, or control system design.
- Strong technical knowledge in:
- Development of PLC/HMI/SCADA platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, GE iFIX, FactoryTalk, Wonderware, ICONICS, Ignition)
- Industrial networking and communications (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, Profibus, OPC)
- Process control fundamentals, loop tuning, and field instrumentation
- Control panel layout, fabrication, and system architecture design
- Experience working on municipal or industrial infrastructure projects (water/wastewater, landfill gas, energy, manufacturing).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel across North America for commissioning and client support. (Must have a valid Passport)
Assets (Nice-to-Haves)
- Experience programming in IEC 61131-3 languages (Ladder, Function Block, Structured Text).
- Familiarity with OT/IT network infrastructure, virtualization, server-client systems, and cybersecurity practices.
- Exposure to cloud-connected SCADA or edge computing platforms.
- Basic scripting (Python, PowerShell) or database interaction (SQL) for automation workflows
- Involvement in HAZOP studies, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), or redundancy design.
- Project experience in renewable energy, RNG/biogas facilities, or food and beverage sectors.
