About the Position
MacGregors has an immediate requirement for an underground mining superintendent to lead a 14/7 rotation for a 4-month duration at our underground job site in Wreck Cove, Nova Scotia. The project involves remediation of an underground tunnel including installation of ground support, shotcrete application, and ramp rehab.
The Underground Superintendent – Rock Bolting will lead all aspects of ground control and stabilization activities during tunnel rehabilitation operations. You will supervise site teams and contractors, ensure adherence to engineering specifications, and maintain the highest safety and quality standards in a high-risk underground environment.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities
· Supervise and coordinate all rock bolting activities including installation of mechanical bolts, resin bolts, mesh, and other ground support systems.
· Work closely with geotechnical engineers to adapt support strategies to changing ground conditions.
· Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, project specifications, and tunnel support design requirements.
· Lead and mentor crews to maintain high performance, safety, and efficiency in confined underground settings.
· Monitor tunnel face advancement and ensure timely and effective installation of support systems.
· Maintain detailed daily records of work progress, materials usage, and any variances from the support plan.
· Liaise with equipment maintenance teams to ensure bolters and related machinery are operating effectively.
· Support quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) initiatives and participate in site inspections and audits.
· Collaborate with contractors, engineers, surveyors, and tunnel operations teams to align schedules and priorities.
Key Skills, Capabilities & Experience:

Minimum 8–10 years of underground construction experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role overseeing rock bolting or ground support.

Strong understanding of rock mass behavior, ground control principles, and installation methods for rock support systems.

Familiarity with various bolting systems and mechanical shotcrete application

Demonstrated leadership and team coordination skills in a high-pressure, production-driven environment.

Commitment to health and safety in underground environments, with relevant certifications (e.g., underground supervisor ticket, First Aid).

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, support designs, and tunnel alignment plans.

Proficiency in reporting tools and MS Office; experience with construction management software is an asset.

Valid driver's license: ability to obtain site access or mine certification as required.

Physical ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and operate in outdoor or harsh environments.
