This is a critical role on our Vineyard Leadership Team. This Vineyard Manager is responsible for building and managing vineyards in Naramata and Okanagan Falls, BC, including implementing and following viticulture programs to ensure grape quality and yield targets are met. The Vineyard Manager is responsible for the continuous, safe operations and must work across all vineyard teams to ensure quality metrics are met on a consistent basis from vineyard to vineyard.
Accountabilities & Impact:
- Lead a team of full-time vineyard tractor drivers, seasonal workers (SAWP/AgStream) and casual staff to implement all machinery and hand operations.
- Prepare and manage vineyard schedules (staff, vineyard ops and seasonal milestones)
- Continuous performance check-ins with Foreman and Viticulturists to maintain expectations and feedback loop.
- Work closely with Viticulturist to develop, implement and monitor vineyard work across all vineyards
- Communicate daily with Crew Foreman, Equipment Foreman and other Vineyard Managers to develop continuous plans and ensure a smooth flow between activities and vineyards.
- Build supportive and driven BU teams with clear developmental goals,
- Implement machinery operations tasks including:, staff training and timely execution of vineyard tasks including: mowing/mulching, spraying, trimming, leafing and harvesting.
- Facilitate workflow of all hand operations that include canopy management (pruning, tying, tucking, harvesting) and irrigation maintenance/operation.
- Responsible for the overall quality of work done in their vineyards.
Skills & Experiences Needed:
- 10+ years progressive vineyard experience.
- 5+ years’ experience leading and training vineyard teams.
- 5 years’ experience operating vineyard equipment including tractors, sprayers and machine harvesters.
- Solid knowledge of all vineyard procedures and practices including planting, pruning, harvesting, and irrigation systems.
- Intermediate Computer skills; MS Office, Suite, Word, Excel
- Team Player
- Valid BC Driver’s License
