Financial Reporting Operations within Finance is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Financial Analyst for approximately 24 months.
This position reports to the Manager, Financial Reporting, and will assist in leading the Financial Reporting team with managing the day-to-day. This position requires decision-making and judgement, technical accounting knowledge and strong relationship-buildings.
The incumbent will work in an environment where there is ambiguity, continuous change (constantly changing systems and processes) and shifting priorities, and workload may be heavier during peak periods (e.g., fiscal year-end).
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Financial/Management Reporting
- Overseeing and assisting in performing daily, weekly and monthly routine processes and procedures.
- Compile and perform accurate, timely and meaningful analysis for various ad hoc financial reports.
- Continuously seek to improve financial processes and procedures within the University.
- Ability to initiate, implement and support new or modified approaches, practices and processes in the organization.
- Perform and review monthly reconciliations.
- Identifying, investigating and resolving anomalies in transactional information.
- Documentation of reporting systems and processes.
- Adequate documentation is maintained to support the special projects and reporting. This often requires preparation of working papers and schedules, activity summaries, variance and comparative analysis and reconciliations.
- Provide explanation of documents, provide information and support as required by management and various auditors including internal auditors and the auditor general.
- Stay current on trends and approaches to financial reporting and processes through continued professional development.
- Preparation and submission of monthly investment entries.
- Preparation and review of investment account reconciliations.
Communications/Relationship
- Ensure that communications are timely, informative and appropriately represent Finance and the University.
- Foster and build collaborative, supportive relationships with assigned clients.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Recent graduate or near completion of a professional accounting designation (CA, CMA or CGA) with a related University degree, in business, finance, accounting or a related field.
- Three or more years of extensive work experience in progressively more responsible role accounting functions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and are capable of building and maintaining productive and supportive working relationships.
- Required to have a high attention to detail and meticulous documentation standards.
- Proficient user of computer software applications, including large integrated enterprise resource planning systems, data warehousing and business intelligence tools, spreadsheets, and CaseWare.
- Previous experience in auditing and/or a public practicing accounting firm would be an asset.
- Knowledge of University culture and stakeholders would be an asset.
