As our Accounting Assistant, you support the financial integrity of the organization by ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and on time.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Finance, and as a member of MCC BC’s Finance team, the Accounting Assistant is responsible for preparing and processing accounts payable and receivable transactions, making bank deposits, preparing donation batches for entry, and assisting with preparation of other financial documents. The Accounting Assistant daily demonstrates MCC BC’s Christian beliefs, values, and mission while supporting various internal and external stakeholders with day-to-day accounting tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- How much you work: This is a full-time salaried position, working 37.5 hours per week. This role could be tailored to 0.8 FTE (30 hours per week) with salary pro-rated accordingly, depending on candidate preference. Supporting special organizational initiatives may require working extended, after or holiday hours, as necessary.
- When you work: This position operates primarily within general office hours of 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. This role may require extended, after or holiday hours to support special organizational initiatives, as necessary.
- Where you work: This position is located at MCC BC’s office in Abbotsford, British Columbia. There is flexibility for a hybrid home/office schedule, with the expectation that the Accounting Assistant will work at the office at least 3 days per week.
- Physical conditions & requirements: This position will require significant computer time. Ability to focus for extended periods of time with high attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Pace of work: This position works independently with high day-to-day variation, including receiving and responding to unanticipated requests from leadership and other colleagues, and is expected to manage multiple deadlines and seasons of high intensity workflow.
- Interactions with vulnerable populations: This position will have minimal interactions with vulnerable populations.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & ACCREDITATIONS
- Two years’ experience in an accounting role or related field
JOB REQUIREMENTS & LICENSING
- Legally able to work in Canada
- Valid BC Driver’s License along with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
- Satisfactory criminal record clearance (required upon hire)
Key Responsibilities
ACCOUNTS PAYABLE/RECEIVABLE
- Process vendor invoices and employee expense claims, ensuring expenses are properly coded and authorized
- Prepare and process weekly payment runs, including cheques and EFTs
- Assist with data entry of sales invoices and cash receipts
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of payables and receivables documentation
- Monitor accounts and relate with various vendors, customers, and donors, as required
- Reconcile vendor invoices to statements
- Assist with general ledger account reconciliations
- Prepare bank deposits and take deposits to MCC BC’s financial institutions, liaising with the financial institution to troubleshoot and report, as required
OTHER
- Support finance activities at MCC BC events, including but not limited to the MCC BC Annual General Meeting (October) and MCC BC’s annual Festival for World Relief (mid-September)
- Provide administrative support to the Finance team
- Assist with fiscal year-end preparation, as required
- Participate in continuous learning and professional development
- Other tasks and special projects in the department as time permits
TEAM PARTICIPATION
- Demonstrate MCC BC’s commitment to Christian mission, values, behaviours and approaches as defined in the qualifications, in all formal and informal interactions with any stakeholder
- Support volunteers and colleague employees, proactively and sensitively providing direct and advice as required
- Demonstrate active participation in team meetings, including morning devotions and prayers with volunteers and staff, leading as required
