Position Overview
CSPC is seeking a bookkeeper who is experienced with nonprofit bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles. The bookkeeper will maintain the daily financial records of CSPC by recording transactions every day to ensure all financial records are current. Other duties and responsibilities include reviewing financial data, paying invoices, tracking purchases, and handling bank deposits.
This is a long-term employment position for 3-4 days per week (preference for 4 days but willing to work with 3 for the right candidate). This position works out of CSPC offices in downtown Victoria, BC, and will report to the Executive Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
The bookkeeper’s main responsibility is to ensure the accuracy of the CSPC’s financial records and produce financial reports (as needed) for CSPC’s senior management and board to fulfill their fiduciary oversight responsibilities. Ongoing duties include data entry; creating PAD (through Central 1); managing accounts payable and accounts receivable (including creating invoices); paying invoices, expense accounts, and credit cards; assist with budgeting; making deposits, e-transfers, and writing cheques; creating monthly financial statements; preparing and submitting required financial reports; account reconciliations; create and update accounting process procedure documents; processing payroll (through Payworks) and all monthly reconciliations. The bookkeeper will also be the main liaison with CSPC’s accounting firm on the annual audit and filing of tax returns.
The position will also be responsible for the administration of Microsoft, employee benefits, and ordering office supplies.
Qualifications and Skills
· Good working knowledge of MS Office, Excel and Word.
· Financial management experience, including nonprofit sector experience.
· Good knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency’s Registered Charities regulations.
· Good working knowledge with Sage/Simply Accounting.
· Familiarity with grants, proposal development, and fundraising.
· Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
· Experience with online payroll systems (Payworks).
· Knowledge of Canada Helps, Central 1 systems.
· Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education + work experience.
· Minimum five years of directly related experience (in nonprofit sector preferred).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45.00-$50.00 per hour
