JOB OVERVIEW

We are looking for a motivated Tooling Engineering Student who can join our team and commit to an 8-month internship.

If you are passionate about aviation, mechanical systems, and hands-on problem-solving, we’d love to meet you! Join FTAI Aviation’s Repair Team and make a direct impact in a collaborative, high-performance environment. The tooling department is responsible for creating tools and fixtures that support both production (gas turbine engine disassembly, inspection, reassembly and test), as well as piece-part repair (machining, grinding, thermal spray, coating, welding, brazing and many more). Many tools are both designed and manufactured internally in our fully equipped machine shop. Tools must be designed to meet the high precision required by aerospace applications. The tooling team is growing and is investing in new technologies such as additive manufacturing (i.e. 3D printing) and optical scanners to accelerate the design of tooling. As an intern, you will support our tooling and engineering teams in a variety of hands-on and design-related tasks, while gaining valuable industry experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the development and improvement of tool designs alongside the tooling engineers
  • Creating and modifying 3D models using CAD (computer-aided design) software
  • Preparing technical drawings to support manufacturing and inspection
  • Post-processing and analyzing optical scans and inspection data
  • Supporting machinists and technicians in tool fabrication and repair
  • Contributing to 3D printing projects, including requirements gathering, CAD modeling, printing, and feedback integration
  • Organizing and collecting engineering data to support engine overhaul activities
  • Assisting in the development of tools that enhance engineering processes
  • Learning about jet engines, and the challenges related to their maintenance, repair, and testing
  • Developing analytical thinking and problem-solving skills through real-world projects

Required skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Currently studying in a Bachelor of Engineering program at a recognized university in either Mechanical, Aerospace or Materials Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience in mechanical design
  • Experience with CAD programs (especially Solidworks and AutoCad, but also CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo and others).
  • Experience with drawings for manufacturing and an understanding of GD&T
  • Experience with 3D printing is an asset
  • Organized, self-motivated, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work without direct supervision
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and prepare technical reports
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in English and French

Equal Opportunity Statement:

FTAI Aviation is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity in the workplace. We are committed to excellence in serving all customers, including people with disabilities, and we encourage feedback on the provision of these services**.**
