About the role

HOURS:

2-3-2 system days only, alternating weekends. 8am to 8pm shifts.

Who we are: For over 35 years Centre 507 has provided services to those who need it most in Centretown, Ottawa. We are proud to provide participants with quality, nutritious meals six days per week and one of the most fulsome recreation programs in the city. The Centre also provides access to community resources including resume help, tax and legal assistance, help with housing and other needs-based services.

Why we do what we do: Our goal is simple. We want to be there for anyone in need of a warm meal, a friend, and a community.

As the successful candidate you will develop supportive relationships with the participants of Centre 507 through listening, conversation, taking part in recreation activities, participating in daily activities including:

  • Leading our participants in recreation, daily tasks and volunteer activities around Centre 507.
  • Motivating our participants to follow through with their own goals by providing: Active listening, motivational interviewing, crisis support, appropriate referrals to other agencies.
  • Ensuring a safe and supportive environment is maintained through the use of our progressive discipline of verbal warnings, written warnings, asking individuals to leave, time outed.
  • Taking part in daily debriefs and weekly team meetings.
  • Supervising our maintenance staff, relief staff, volunteers and placement students.
  • Meal Planning for Centre 507, managing food inventory, and order food.

You’ll also be prepared to…..

  • Work flexible hours that may include evenings and weekends
  • Exercise extreme flexibility to accommodate fluctuating and varied program needs
  • Participate in the work team, in a way that is positive, and ensures inclusion of all staff.
  • Assist in coordination of special yearly events, and provide content for social media communication.
  • Provide harm reduction support (e.g. needle exchange and safer inhalation support, Hep C and HIV information and support).
  • Record and compile daily and monthly statistics.

You’re a fit with the role, if you bring:

  • Post-secondary education in the Social Sciences, Social Work, Police Foundations or equivalent experience and education.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of issues such as poverty, homelessness, addictions, and mental illness.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.

About Us Centre 507 is an adult drop-in centre, collaborating with partners to provide healthy meals, welcoming community and access to resources.

Food, fun and support We are proud to provide robust services based on the needs of our community. In addition to providing nutritious meals six days per week, Centre 507 members also participate in several events within the Centre and around Ottawa. Some recent activities include attending Ottawa 67's games, beach days, banking classes and more! Centre 507 also provides access to community resources including resume help, tax and legal assistance, help with housing and other needs-based services. Learn more.

Nourishing our community Centre 507 is, above all, a community. Everyone is welcome. Our community is heavily invested in our day-to-day operations. They help to run social events and pitch in to help with our daily operations. Every day, they clear tables, carry groceries upstairs, put out garbage and sweep up. Giving back in ways like these is very important to many 507 members.
