Personal Support Worker – Make Every Day Meaningful
At Rygiel Supports for Community Living, we don’t just provide care — we build community. For more than 60 years, we've been supporting people with developmental disabilities in living full, inclusive, and empowered lives.
As a Personal Support Worker, you’ll join a compassionate and collaborative team that puts people first — where your efforts are seen, your voice is valued, and your work has purpose.
Why Join Rygiel?
- A culture rooted in respect, inclusion, and human dignity
- Deep team camaraderie — you’ll never feel like you’re doing it alone
- A meaningful role where you directly contribute to quality of life for others
- A place where diversity of experience and background is welcomed and celebrated
- Ongoing training and development to help you grow in your role and beyond
This is more than a job. It’s a chance to help others live with dignity, choice, and belonging — and be part of a workplace that lives those values, too.
What You Bring:
- Personal Support Worker Certificate from an accredited school (required)
- Strong experience supporting individuals with complex medical needs, such as g-tube feeds, ostomy care, oral suctioning, and seizure management
- A team mindset, strong emotional intelligence, and confidence working in home settings
- Comfort with personal care, homemaking, and promoting daily independence
- A flexible, compassionate approach — ready to adapt and advocate
Core Responsibilities:
- Create a warm, supportive, and inclusive living environment by working closely with a team to ensure residents feel safe and valued.
- Assist with social and leisure activities, transportation, and medical appointments as needed.
- Light housekeeping (i.e. sweeping, laundry, dishes, etc.) in a home environment.
- Respond effectively to the changing needs of the individuals you support by observing, documenting, and reporting any changes in behaviours.
- Provide hands-on support with daily living activities, including personal care, bedside, and personal hygiene (helping individuals move, bathe, and groom with dignity, independency, privacy, preference and safety), meal preparation (i.e. plating, feeding)
- Assist individuals with disabilities in achieving their personal goals, fostering independence, meaningful relationships, and participation in the community.
- Administer and assist with medication and medication reminders as needed.
- Participate in ongoing staff training and development.
- Engage positively within a team by supporting team members
- Current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check (dated in the last six months)
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
- 2 Step TB Test (or negative Chest xray) (dated in the last six months)
Additional Job Requirements:
This is a hands-on role that includes physical components such as standing for extended periods, moderate to heavy lifting, and supporting individuals with lifts and transfers. Candidates must be comfortable providing physical care and working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
This position requires flexibility to work all rotating shifts, including days, afternoons, and overnights, in alignment with the needs and routines of the individuals supported.
