About the role

The Research Centre in the Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 9 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Research Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the participatory evaluation of the International and Community Development (ICD) specialization within the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at the University of Calgary. Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI) and working collaboratively with students, alumni, faculty, and community members, the Coordinator supports the day-to-day activities and phases of this evaluation project. This includes survey design, data collection, stakeholder engagement, knowledge translation activities, and project reporting. The position requires strong project management, communication, and community engagement skills.

The Research Coordinator will assist in coordinating the various steps of the project including preparation and submission of research grant applications, application to Research Ethics Board and assisting the PI in developing informational materials pertaining to the study. Additionally, the Research Coordinator will be involved in organized various research symposia across different cities as part of the knowledge dissemination phase of this project.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Coordinate all phases of the participatory evaluation project.
  • Assist in developing research tools in collaboration with the student advisory committee.
  • Organize and facilitate surveys, interviews, and focus groups with students, alumni, faculty, and community partners.
  • Support symposium planning and execution for collaborative data analysis and knowledge exchange.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data in collaboration with the Principal Investigator.
  • Assist in writing interim and final project reports.
  • Prepare conference submissions and knowledge translation materials.
  • Foster relationships with diverse stakeholders involved in the evaluation.
  • Ensure compliance with University of Calgary research ethics standards.
  • Manage project documentation, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Other related duties as assigned (vary on need and stage of project).

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in Social Work, Sociology, Health Sciences, Education, or other related fields.
  • 2-3 years of experience in research programs, community engagement or participatory projects.
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills (survey design, interviews, focus groups).
  • Knowledge of international development, global engagement, and decolonial approaches.
  • Proven project coordination experience, preferably within university settings.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaborative, inclusive, and ethical research practices.
  • Ability to organize events, workshops, and/or symposia.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Previous experience in data analysis and report writing is an asset.
