Position Title.
Senior Project Manager – Aluminum Operations Support
Purpose:
Project Initiation and Planning:
-
Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, objectives, timelines, resources, and budgets.
-
Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to identify potential challenges and develop mitigation strategies.
-
Define project deliverables and establish project goals in collaboration with stakeholders.
-
Coaching and upskilling of the team the team on execution methodology, commercial acumen and safety management.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
-
Assemble and coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, HSE, designers, contractors, and other relevant professionals.
-
Foster a collaborative and productive team environment, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities.
-
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior project managers and team members.
Execution and Monitoring:
-
Oversee project execution, ensuring adherence to project plans, timelines, and budgets.
-
Implement robust monitoring and control.
-
Provide senior leadership with concise update reports bi-weekly for each project showing budget spend, deviation from spend and timeline as applicable, highlight potential roadblocks and winning conditions.
Systems and Structure

Document systems and processes to enable effective delivery of Non-Routine Maintenance.

Collate the 10-year Major Maintenance Plan for the Rio Tinto Kitimat Operations
Responsibilities:
Role of applicant is specialist maintenance coordinator and planner with specific skills attributed to Aluminum Smelters.
Overall goals and scope of the role that the candidate will support Worley in providing engineering services includes the following:

Oversee the Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM) projects for the Kitimat aluminum smelter.
-
Develop and implement a comprehensive 10-year major maintenance plan for the facility.
-
Establish and lead a new department dedicated to NRM, ensuring smooth and efficient project execution.
-
Lead cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and fostering collaboration between stakeholders.
-
Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet safety and quality standards.
-
Develop systems, processes, and a governance structure to ensure effective project delivery.
Actual duties to be performed:

Develop and manage project plans, including scope, timelines, and budgets for various NRM projects.

Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and alignment with project objectives.

Mentor and upskill team members in project execution, safety management, and commercial acumen.

Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for each project, and devise mitigation strategies.

Monitor project progress and provide regular reports to senior leadership, identifying deviations and corrective measures.

Establish and document systems for NRM project execution, ensuring the sustainability of the department.

Provide leadership in change management, ensuring the successful development and integration of the new department.

Identify and mentor Indigenous talent within the organization, providing training and development opportunities to support career progression into senior leadership positions. Leverage experience in promoting employment equity and fostering inclusive work environments, drawing on a proven track record of similar initiatives in South Africa.

The applicant has been working in this capacity for other employers and international operations elsewhere in the world for over 30 years.
Antony is a business executive with 30 years’ experience in leading and managing international multidisciplinary construction businesses and projects around the globe. He has excellent analytical abilities and is known for identifying innovative ways to improve business initiatives. His unique understanding of modern leadership allows him to assist organizations in developing & mentoring their people in coping with the complex drivers of change. His extensive experience in various disciplines including mining means he is well versed in international health, safety and environment requirements.
Proprietary knowledge the applicant would bring:

Extensive experience in managing large-scale industrial construction and maintenance projects.

Deep understanding of safety standards, particularly those required in first-world industrial and construction environments.

Expertise in portfolio and project management systems, along with company-specific project execution methodologies.

Familiarity with the internal operational processes, financial governance, and risk management specific to the company.

Advanced knowledge in management and continuous improvement practices to drive operational excellence.
