The District of West Vancouver's Parks Department is seeking a permanent full-time Cemetery Attendant at Capilano View Cemetery. Reporting to the Cemetery Foreperson, the Cemetery Attendant will be part of a small team that performs a wide variety of tasks and takes pride in being proactive and innovative in its operations. Most of the work for this position is considered manual labour, requiring effort and stamina. The ability to think constructively and to problem-solve are considered important assets,. Assignments vary and can include the care of lawns, gardens, and grounds; cemetery tasks including burials; various landscape work; and customer service, including interacting with individuals and families coping with loss. This position offers significant and intersting variety for a labour role, as well as the opportunity to receive related training like backhoe operation.

The preferred candidate will possess experience and general knowledge concerning safe use of landscape and maintenance equipment including mowers and backhoe; sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of manual outdoor work in all types of weather; and have an aptitude/ interest in Cemetery operations. Sensitivity, professionalism and a team-focused, can-do attitude are desirable attributes. The candidate must hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of BC.

The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials. During the assessment process, successful candidates will be required to submit an acceptable Driver’s Abstract from ICBC.

Rate of Pay:

$36.79 per hour
