North Island Hospital Comox Valley is seeking Emergency Medicine locum coverage.
We welcome either CCFP-EM or FRCPC Emergency certification.
North Island Hospital Comox Valley is a beautiful new hospital, which opened in October 2017. We are a 24-hour Emergency Department with 153 inpatient beds and see a variety of different patient populations including pediatrics. The hospital serves approximately 66,000 people and we see over 31,000 + visits annually. The area is a growing community and Emergency Department visits are increasing. We are a referral center for some surgical specialties and have a broad range of consultants including Internal Medicine, Intensive Care, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Urology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Otolaryngology, Radiology and Family Medicine. We see trauma patients and are the local trauma team until patients can be transferred to a tertiary trauma center. We are the Rapid Response Team for the hospital and attend all cardiac arrests and code calls for admitted inpatients.
We have a Rapid Access and Discharge Unit (RADU), which is run by our Emergency Department Physicians. This unit is intended for patients who are expected to be discharged within 24 hours. Successful applicants would be expected to work RADU shifts.
We have an academic affiliation with the University of British Columbia (UBC) postgraduate programs and are a teaching hospital. We have a Family Practice Residency Program and are involved in both medical student and residency teaching.
We would like to incorporate physicians into our group with specialized skill sets. Dedicated academic, quality improvement or leadership experience would be an asset. As we are a new hospital, there is room for quality improvement initiatives, which would be supported by the department.

May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidy agreement (RSA) including:
- Fee Premium: 6.93%
