The Faculty of Science is seeking Contract Academic Staff to teach the following course at Brandon University for the 2025 – 2026 Winter Session (January – April). In-person instruction at the Brandon University Campus is preferred.
99:101 Writing and Communication in the Sciences
This course teaches the fundamentals and goals of writing in the sciences and provides the opportunity for students to engage in practical writing exercises. It should be taken in the student’s first year to prepare them for written assignments during their degree. Fundamentals include grammar, sentence structure, paragraph cohesion, writing goals (e.g. abstract, thesis, lab report, peer-review, target audience), effective communication, paraphrasing, referencing, academic integrity, use of library databases to aid in writing projects, and understanding of common writing software and language tools (e.g. artificial intelligence).
3 lecture hours per week, one term.
Currently scheduled in Slot 12: Tuesdays from 11:40 AM – 12:30 PM AND Thursdays from 11:40 AM – 1:30 PM
Qualifications: A PhD in a scientific discipline, science communication, technical writing, or a closely related field is preferred; a Masters’ degree will be considered. Prior post-secondary teaching experience would be an asset. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Masters’ degree and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee at the address below on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.
Salary: $7,857.00 per 3 credit hour course
