About The Role Vernon Paving, a division of Lafarge Canada Inc., operating in the Okanagan Valley is currently seeking applications for an experienced full-time seasonal Scale Operator . Vernon Paving employs approximately 25 staff, servicing municipal, commercial, residential, and provincial asphalt paving markets. Vernon Paving is a Union company that offers employee benefits and competitive wages subject to qualifications and experience. These positions are based out of our Armstrong location with worksites throughout the North Okanagan.

What You’ll Accomplish

  • Greet and help customers/truck drivers as they come through the scale.
  • Process all credit/debit card payments accurately and quickly.
  • Offer a base knowledge of products in the yard.
  • Scale (weigh) trucks for tare or sale purposes, ensuring legal compliance.
  • Operate one or more scales as necessary.
  • Accurately enter truck, customer, product, and job information.
  • Direct truck movement into the pit and provide key information to the loader.
  • Complete relevant ticket and sale tracking reports.
  • Manage day-to-day paperwork and stock of the scale house.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. What We’re Looking For Education: Grade 12, or equivalent knowledge and skills.

Required Work Experience: Experience scaling or in the aggregate industry is considered a plus.

Additional Requirements:

  • Computer savvy; experience with MS Word and Excel is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Able to sit/stand for 10+ hours per day.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
