Senior Policy Analyst, Energy
The C.D. Howe Institute, Canada’s leading independent, non-partisan public policy research institute, seeks a Senior Policy Analyst, Energy to join its research team on a full-time, permanent basis, reporting to the Vice-President and Director of Research. The role offers a unique opportunity to inform and lead debates over economic policy issues, in furtherance of the Institute’s mission to advance Canadians’ living standards by promoting economically sound public policy.
Responsibilities:

Preferably based in Western Canada, lead the research for the Institute’s Energy Policy program and related activities.

Conduct original research and coordinate peer-reviewed papers by external authors on significant Canadian energy policy issues.
-
As a member of the Institute’s research team, contribute ideas for research and events that advance the Institute’s mission, review select draft papers and project proposals from time to time.
-
Liaise with Energy Policy Council members and support biannual meetings and other related events.
-
Perform other tasks as may be required to achieve the team’s annual operating plan.
The Institute will consider individuals with a wide range of experience for this position: salary will reflect training and experience. The position will preferably be located in Western Canada, primarily remote (work-from-home). Ability to work independently is required.
The ideal candidate will have:

Academic training in economics or another quantitative field of study, with a focus on energy.

A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience

Solid quantitative skills including modelling of energy markets and investment decisions
-
Strong familiarity with policy issues affecting Canada’s energy sector, ranging from environmental issues to trade, employment, and fiscal issues
-
Excellent oral and written communication, with an ability to explain complex concepts to specialist and non-specialist audiences (bilingualism not necessary but would be an asset)
