Position Overview
Mini Thni Community School is seeking a dynamic, culturally responsive Foods Program Teacher to lead Junior High and High School foods programming, including a dual credit partnership with Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). This is a unique opportunity to educate students in essential life skills while also integrating traditional Stoney food knowledge, nutrition, and community values.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Program Delivery
- Teach Foods classes for Grades 7–12, aligning with Alberta Education curriculum and high school credit requirements.
- Deliver dual credit programming in collaboration with SAIT for senior high students, with support from school administration.
- Create engaging, hands-on culinary learning experiences that integrate health, nutrition, safety, and kitchen management.
- Oversee and manage the planting, maintenance and harvesting of the greenhouse.
Cultural and Community Integration
- Collaborate with Elders, knowledge keepers, and community members to incorporate traditional Stoney food knowledge, preparation techniques, and food sovereignty principles.
Facilitate land-based and local harvesting experiences where appropriate, in partnership with the Outdoor Education department.
- Support planning and execution of school-wide events and feasts, including National Indigenous Peoples Day, seasonal celebrations, and student showcases.
Collaboration and Professionalism
- Participate in school-wide initiatives aligned with SEA's pillars: Stoney Language & Culture, Outdoor & Land-Based Learning, Staff Wellness, and Career Readiness.
- Work alongside Student Success Teachers and support staff to ensure inclusive and differentiated instruction.
- Submit culturally integrated lesson plans and unit outlines to the SEA curriculum database using established templates.
Qualifications
Required
- Alberta Teaching Certificate.
- Qualification and/or relevant coursework in Culinary Arts, Home Economics, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Alberta's CTF and CTS outcomes, and high school Foods modules.
Preferred
- Experience or willingness to complete training to support Dual Credit program delivery with SAIT.
- Demonstrated interest in Indigenous education, land-based learning, and community engagement.
- Food Safety Certification and/or willingness to obtain one.
- Previous experience organizing school events or catering is an asset.

The Stoney Education Authority headquarters are based on the Morley Reserve. It is controlled and funded by the Chiefs in Council via the Stoney Tribal Administration.
There are currently three schools, with a fourth primary school being built next to Morley Community School in Morley, Alberta.
