Are you a strategic and creative communications professional passionate about making a meaningful impact in public safety and mental health through innovative marketing and outreach? Join us as our new Communications & Marketing Specialist! The primary function of this position is to develop, implement and maintain a communications and marketing strategy, which responds to oversight needs and priorities of CIPSRT projects.

The Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research & Treatment (CIPSRT), proudly based at the University of Regina, acts as a vital Knowledge Exchange Hub dedicated to gathering, translating, and sharing essential information. Through its innovative initiative, the Public Safety Personnel Network (PSPNET), the institute engages in groundbreaking research and delivers comprehensive treatment services specifically designed to meet the unique mental health needs of current and former public safety personnel. CIPSRT is dedicated to empowering individuals to take charge of their mental well-being, ensuring they receive the critical support needed to thrive both personally and professionally.

The Communications & Marketing Specialist will liaise with teams on all project components to ensure the strategy is being implemented effectively, and to coordinate specific marketing and communication activities and approaches as needed. The position will advise CIPSRT’s leadership team, project leads and team members, as well as the oversight body, on how to adapt the project’s strategic communications approach and image to ensure that the ongoing operation of the project remains relevant, effective, and responsive as needed.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop, implement and maintain the project’s strategic communications and marketing strategy, and coordinate with CIPSRT project teams and oversight body representatives to implement it.
  • Support the projects’ engagement with the oversight bodies to ensure that the project¹s activities are always aligned with its intent.
  • Provide technical verification of activity implementation and completion as related to strategic communications components.
  • Lead, oversee and evaluate strategic communication, public outreach, and messaging activities including media buying, advertising campaigns, social media platforms and event activities.

Position Requirements

What You’ll Bring to this Position:

  • An undergraduate degree in journalism, public relations, communications or business administration/marketing;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in communications, advertising, communications and public relations or marketing;
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role:

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and colleagues;
  • Ability to research and analyze information, and report on large quantities of information in a clear and concise way;
  • Effective time management and multi-tasking skills will also be essential to organize, prioritize and meet critical and ongoing deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill, ability and experience in:
    • Public Relations, including writing for a variety of communication mediums and audiences;
    • Developing strategies and creative marketing and communication content to support project objectives, including strategic advocacy campaigns;
    • Developing and maintaining appropriate social media strategies (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram);
    • Leading, providing oversight and evaluating strategic communication, public outreach, and messaging activities including media buying, advertising campaigns, social media platforms and event activities;
    • Leading the planning and development of audience-appropriate communication materials including brochures and promotional materials, presentations, speaking notes, handouts, press releases, updates to stakeholders and briefing notes for executives;
    • Advising leadership on best practices of communications, marketing, branding, advertising and social media;
    • Translating complex information into accurate, compelling communications that capture the interest of broad-based audiences that are local, regional and national;
    • Ensuring adherence to organizational branding and communications standards, and reflection of organizational policies and positions;
    • Supporting project engagement with oversight bodies to ensure project activities are aligned with intent, and maintaining regular communication with stakeholders;
    • Managing and implementing large-scale communications projects;
    • Software: including MS Office Suite (particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word); Sharepoint, Outlook/GroupWise; Social Media platforms, Salesforce, Hootsuite; Project Management tools; WordPress; Adobe Creative; Brandwatch; Google analytics
  • The following would be considered assets:
    • English-French bilingualism;
    • Proficiency in utilizing survey software (Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, RedCap; Qualtrics);
    • Knowledge of applicable University of Regina and Canadian federal government regulations;
    • Experience gained in a university, unionized and/or research environment.

Physical Demands Pay Grade APT 3 Salary Range $60,280 - $81,376 Annually Status Term Work Hours

Monday – Friday, 8:15 am – 4:30 pm.
