The Energy Operations division is responsible for leasing and maintaining Alberta’s Crown mineral rights and for calculating, assessing, collecting, and reconciling royalty revenues from natural gas, natural gas liquids, helium, conventional oil, oil sands, coal, and metallic and industrial minerals on behalf of Albertans. In addition, the division looks after Petrinex, which is a key volumetric reporting system for industry and western Canada.

The Royalty Operations branch plays a key role in the development of Alberta’s energy industry and collects revenue from the development of Alberta’s conventional oil and natural gas resources on behalf of Albertans. Energy development in Alberta is a key driver of Alberta’s economy and the Royalty Operations branch is a significant contributor of revenue to the province.

If so, this may be a great opportunity for you to join the Energy Operations Division of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.

Royalty Operations is looking for a Senior Royalty Analyst to provide support to the Royalty Operations branch and the Royalty Accounting team by assisting with the administration and management of gas royalty initiatives and issues.

Reporting to the Manager, Royalty Accounting, you will provide expertise and direction on projects, initiatives, and requirements within Gas Royalty Operations, identify stakeholder needs, conduct research and analysis, resolve problems, and review and recommend changes to policies, procedures, regulations, and legislation to ensure alignment with departmental goals and objectives.

Your responsibilities will include but may not be limited to:

  • Lead projects, coordinate initiatives, and participate in various committees for evaluating, assessing, and changing policy direction, programs, or objectives as they relate to Royalty Operations.

  • Leads and ensures all communication with stakeholders regarding Gas Royalty Operations is timely and consistent, and any reporting or requested information is comprehensive and validated.

  • Process development/improvement and planning. Assist in the identification, design, development, and implementation of business processes for improving efficiency and effectiveness of operations to achieve Branch and Department goals.

  • Provide assurance on activities relating to the accurate calculation and timely assessment of Crown royalty to management.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A university degree in a related fields (Business Administration, Accounting or Business Analysis), along with two years of progressively responsible experience in business analysis, business administration, accounting, or production accounting. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered, as outlined below.

Equivalency:

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or

  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

The following are considered assets for the position:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with production accounting experience.

  • Experience in royalty administration and natural gas reporting.

  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and collaboration.

  • Experience in project management and change management.

  • Experience of large automated systems.

  • Considerable knowledge of Mines and Minerals Act, Natural Gas Royalty Regulations, Principles and Procedures relating to gas royalty business

Additional Position Details:

  • This is a full-time permanent position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

  • Work location is Petroleum Plaza Building North Tower, Edmonton.
