The Investment Trading Solutions team owns and supports HOOPP’s investment trading applications and systems. This role plays a vital part in enabling our Investment strategies and our ability to trade new products.
Reporting To The VP, Investment Solutions Group (ISG), The Senior Director, Investment Trading Solutions Is Accountable For Strategic Direction, Stakeholder Relationship Management, Technical And People Leadership, Technology Delivery And Operations Support For The Following Key Areas At HOOPP
- Core investment and trading technologies (both custom built and vendor operated)
- Technology solutions for: Investment Management Front Office / Trading Desk; Investment Finance – investment operations; Investment Finance – data quality and reporting
- Partnership and support for other key areas in ISG: Books of Record, Data, Risk & Analytics, Infrastructure
- Other groups within HOOPP that consume trading data
Working in partnership with business lines and the IT community, the Sr. Director will develop effective long-term strategies that align technology capability with the needs of our investment strategies and operational goals.
The Investment Trading Solutions team is organized with senior staff (Product Owners, Dev and BA) along with multiple Agile teams that report into this role.
What You Will Do The Sr. Director, Investment Trading Solutions provides leadership and direction to all underlying Product Owners and contributing roles. As part of the ISG leadership team, the role is accountable for setting the strategic direction and executing on that strategy via technology delivery, integration, operations and support. Key activities of this role include:
- Planning and coordination of all activities across the Investment Trading Solutions team, in partnership with business lines that the team serves and with the IT division that this team exists within.
- Supporting the career growth of the entire team by ensuring the right skillset exists or is developed across the team in order to fulfil the team’s mandate, ensuring the team has the skills and mindset to deliver exceptional results, and promoting HOOPP’s core values (Accountability, Compassion, and Trust) in how they deliver on their work
- Developing and operationalizing the right set of performance metrics to monitor health and performance of our critical trading applications, identify patterns indicating improvement opportunities, implementing those opportunities to enhance our operational performance.
- Implementing the appropriate technology, tools, mindset and staffing to uphold operational performance of solutions delivered to business stakeholders
- Resource & budget management for the underlying team, including costs relating to external vendors, consultants, staff, etc.
- Change management within the team and in coordination with other HOOPP stakeholders (e.g.. business lines, ISG, IT division)
- Relationship management for key business line clients
- Partnering with other IT teams (e.g., Information Security, Governance, Architecture) to ensure activities and outputs of the team align with evolving standards and practices.
What You Bring
- 12+ years of progressive technology and IT leadership in the investments or capital markets space, and in a front-to-middle office context, including 5+ years of experience in a senior leadership role
- Strong knowledge of investment products, investment operations, investment strategies as well as Front, Middle and Back Office workflows
- Designed and delivered solutions that enabled traders to make investment and risk management decisions – solutions should cover entire stack, from external application integrations, through data provisioning and back-end development, to front-end UI/UX.
- Comprehensive understanding of internal and industry standards and principles on investment solution designs and product management
- Experience leading multiple large/strategic projects
- Experience in defining, planning and analyzing budgets as it relates to technology and technology staffing
- Experience in leading diverse technologies and multi-disciplinary technology teams, guiding teams and clients on solution design, implementation and operationalization
- Extensive expertise in selecting/implementing vendor products as well as designing/engineering for investment management solutions
- Ability to determine the cost and value proposition of initiatives to negotiate and prioritize the highest value work, with experience building business cases and budgeting.
- Proven ability to interact and communicate (written and verbally) with all levels of the organization confidently and effectively and to build strong working relationships in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- In depth knowledge of the principles, theories, practices, and techniques on product management
- Ability to work in a high paced environment where operational excellence is a necessity
- Proven change management experience with the ability to effectively manage complex product and/or architecture transformations
- Exhibits accountability, compassion, trustworthiness
