Job Summary:

As part of our enterprise-wide initiative to implement a unified fleet tracking, crew tracking, and airport turn management solution, we are seeking a Crew Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME) to represent crew pay processes and compliance throughout this strategic transformation.

This SME role is positioned within the program's cross-functional structure and will report into the Business Lead. The Crew Payroll SME will ensure that pay-related implications of new workflows and systems are fully understood, validated, and implemented in alignment with contractual obligations, compliance frameworks, and financial systems.

This role serves as the organization’s subject matter lead for all crew pay-related matters within the scope of the project. The Crew Payroll SME will guide system design, integration, and change management activities that directly impact pay rules, payroll processing, accruals, and post-implementation auditability.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Represent crew pay–related operational, contractual, and regulatory requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with the Business Lead, IT, People & Culture, Finance, Commercial Operations (SOC), Flight Operations, Airports, and Technical Operations to ensure payroll dependencies are fully captured in solution design.
  • Support system configuration, payroll rules mapping, and integration with existing HR/payroll platforms.
  • Participate in testing cycles to validate accuracy of pay outputs against current policies and contracts through multiple downstream systems.
  • Provide input into change management, communication, and training plans specific to payroll impacts.
  • Develop documentation and traceability for payroll logic changes to support compliance, audit, and sustainability.
  • Escalate payroll-related risks or gaps and work with cross-functional partners to mitigate.
  • Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in airline crew payroll, payroll systems, or compensation operations.
  • Deep understanding of FOAG / collective agreements, payroll regulations, and integration with crew scheduling/HR systems.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating on systems or process transformation efforts involving payroll or timekeeping.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to interpret complex pay rules into system logic.
  • Familiarity with payroll software, ERP platforms, or timekeeping systems in an airline context.
  • Experience with implementation or upgrade of crew scheduling systems (e.g., Jeppesen, Sabre, AIMS, LH Systems, CAE, NavBlue,) HRIS, or payroll systems (e.g., SAP, Workday).
  • Exposure to workforce analytics, labor forecasting, or finance/payroll reporting.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
