SAFETY AND SECURITY MONITOR

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the school administrator, the Safety and Security Monitor will monitor student traffic in and around the school building. By serving as a resource and liaison to a diverse student population, the Safety and Security Monitor promotes an inclusive, safe, and caring environment where students are supported to reach their fullest potential.
Duties and Responsibilities:

To become acquainted with the student body and to monitor student traffic in and around the school building

To serve as a resource person and liaison to at-risk population

To serve as an adult presence in the school and become the first contact to students and buffer to school expectations and daily operations

To assist in prevention and intervention strategies for potential crisis situations

To report to teachers on supervision any special circumstances that need to be addressed
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
Qualifications

Quality interpersonal skills with an excellent track record of working effectively with high school age students
-
An excellent memory for student names and school schedules
-
Upon hire, external applicants must supply a Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Search, and a cleared Child Abuse Registry Check, as conditions of employment.
Skills and abilities

Ability to intervene in potential crisis situations to help de-escalate emotional levels of students
-
Good communication skills to work with a large diverse population of students and staff
-
Ability to think clearly and recognize and analyze situations and problems that need to be referred to school staff
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Physical demands:

Standing for extended periods of time
-
Sufficient vision and hearing to perform related job duties
Working conditions:

Exposure to frequent interruptions with conflicting demands and varied deadlines

Exposure to noise
