CURRENT OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Controller, the Payroll Clerk is responsible for the day-to-day payroll administration for Splatsin Development Corporation (SDC), Yucwmenlúcwu (Caretakers of the Land), and Quilakwa Investments. This position plays a key role in ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of payroll across multiple entities and departments.
Working with the Splatsin Nation, our mission is to lead sustainable economic development that supports the values of the Splatsin community. The Payroll Clerk will work collaboratively with project managers, the finance team, and human resources to support employee experience, compliance, and financial integrity.
The successful candidate will work from SDC’s main office, contributing to a collaborative team environment and helping the organization achieve its financial objectives.
Strategic Leadership 15%
- Process SDC, YUC, and Quilakwa payroll data in compliance with internal financial policies and controls.
- Promote a culture of accuracy, confidentiality, and accountability in payroll administration.
- Provide training to new employees on the timecard software system (Replicon) and offer support or troubleshooting as needed.
Technical Leadership and Execution (85%)
- Process and administer regular, off-cycle, and year-end payroll for all SDC group entities (QUIL, YUC, SDC).
- Coordinate new employee setup and terminations with HR; manage onboarding within payroll systems.
- Maintain up-to-date payroll records, including:
o Pay rate changes
o Benefit and deduction changes
o Terminations and Records of Employment (ROEs)
- Assist with reconciling Group Benefits and Pension Plans.
- Ensure accurate and timely remittance of statutory deductions and employer contributions.
- Complete and file tax forms (e.g., GST, Employer Health Tax, CRA source deductions).
- Reconcile and submit WorkSafeBC reports and premiums.
- Prepare and post payroll journal entries to the general ledger.
- Generate year-end reports including T4s, pension adjustments, and vacation accrual summaries.
- Support timecard verification and escalate missing/late submissions to supervisors as needed.
- Assist in payroll-related audits and provide documentation as requested.
- Occasionally support Accounts Receivable or other finance functions during high-volume periods.
- Handle special projects and other duties as assigned.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- PCP designation is preferred (or willingness to pursue).
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in payroll administration; experience with multi-company payroll is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, standards, and CRA reporting.
- Post-secondary education in business, accounting, or a related field is an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with payroll/timecard software (Ceridian, Replicon, Sage, etc.)
- Knowledge of collective agreements or union payroll processes is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.
- Previous experience working with First Nations organizations is an asset.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and attention to detail.
