About the role
Winpak Division is seeking a Millwright Apprentice (Level 1 to 4) to join their Maintenance department based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. In this role you will be reporting to the Supervisor, Maintenance Mechanical. The Millwright Apprentice is responsible to safely and effectively repair, install and maintain production, building and property equipment under the training of a Red Seal Millwright.
Key Responsibilities:
- The safe and effective installation, modification, and replacement of machinery and parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints and work layouts.
- Must work closely with mechanics, electrical technicians and engineers.
- Maintain a spare parts inventory and order spare parts according to procedures.
- Maintain all machine shop equipment and supplies, including cutting tools, lathes, and milling machines.
- Work during scheduled shutdowns, shift work, and, when necessary, overtime hours to accommodate scheduled maintenance of equipment. Must be on call on weekends on a rotational basis and must report for duty within a reasonable time limit if called back to work.
- Ensure that the necessary paperwork such as daily work time sheets and callback reports are complete and accurate.
Required Qualifications:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required
- Millwright/Industrial Mechanic Level 1 to 4 required
- 1+ years of experience in maintenance shop experience required
- Ability to work onsite full time
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years of experience and knowledge of work and safety regulations
- Other combinations of education, experience, knowledge, and skills will be considered
Additional Details:
- The selected candidate will work 100% onsite
- The position is located at 100 Saulteaux Crescent, Winnipeg, MB R3J3T3, Canada
- The selected candidate will be responsible for remaining in good standing with Apprenticeship Manitoba.
- The selected candidate will be responsible for following Letter of Understanding 9 - Company Sponsored Apprenticeship Training in the Collective Agreement.
Letter of Understanding 9 - Company Sponsored Apprenticeship Training:
The Company will maintain the employee’s wage while they are attending school (based on 40 hours per week). The Company will cover costs of required books and tuition for full Apprenticeship Training Program. For Millwrights studying in The Pas, the Company will cover accommodations to a maximum of $450 per month and travel (mileage) expenses at Company current published rate of expenses for the initial and final return trip home for the duration of the training period. The Company will also cover four (4) return trips during the study period in The Pas. Millwright. Apprentices will progress through the merit levels based on levels of schooling not annual progression.
Upon completion of the Apprenticeship Program the employee must complete three (3) years of service with the Company (from date of receiving Journeyman Red Seal
Certification). Failure to meet this requirement will result in the employee having to repay any/all topped up wages, tuition, books and accommodations while attending school, based on a monthly proration.Candidates must be actively registered with the Manitoba Apprenticeship Board and follow all rules and regulations of the program. Failure to successfully complete the program will result in the employee being removed from the classification.
