THE ROLE The Technical Service Manager for Crane Technicians is responsible for overseeing the technical service operations related to crane maintenance, repair, and support. This role involves leading a team of crane technicians, coordinating projects, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and providing technical expertise to resolve complex issues, acting as a coach and mentor for technicians by providing onsite, hands-on training.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor crane technicians through onsite, hands-on training.
  • Provide expert support during complex troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Perform crane service tasks on-site, including emergency on-call duties.
  • Help assign technicians to jobs based on skills and workload.
  • Monitor job progress and coordinate with management to meet budget and timeline goals.
  • Take part in regular 1:1 meetings with the Service Manager.
  • Support team motivation and assist with disciplinary actions when needed.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Support sales by helping estimators with quotes and inspection follow-ups.
  • Conduct site visits to gather details for project quotes.
  • Follow up with customers for Purchase Orders and create work orders.
  • Provide clear scopes of work for technicians and clients.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and best practices.
  • Help develop standardized service procedures.
  • Enforce health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Practice and promote proper ergonomics and safe equipment use.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience with overhead (O/H) cranes is required
  • Strong technical expertise in crane systems and equipment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work well under pressure
  • Intermediate computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office
  • Strong leadership abilities to manage and motivate teams effectively
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with customers and internal teams
  • Willingness to travel for on-site service visits and inspections
  • Available for emergency service calls outside of regular hours
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
