About the role
Millar Western Forest Products Ltd. Slave Lake Pulp Division is currently seeking an Environmental Technologist to join our team for a Maternity Leave contract to support the safe and efficient operation of our effluent treatment systems and environmental programs at the BCTMP pulp mill. This opportunity has the potential to transition into a permanent role based on business needs. Reporting to the Technical Supervisor, the successful candidate will collect and test effluent and water samples, conduct bioassay sampling, and ensure environmental compliance. Additional responsibilities include optimizing treatment processes, supporting environmental projects, coordinating maintenance and contractors, and contributing to continuous improvement—all while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and organizational standards.
This position follows a 4-days-on, 4-days-off rotation and requires the flexibility to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
The ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will hold a Chemical or Environmental Technology Diploma, a B.Sc., or an equivalent combination of education and experience. They will bring proven experience in environmental or chemical laboratory work, with additional assets including a Level 1 or 2 Water Certification or relevant industrial lab experience. This individual will be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and will demonstrate a proactive, detail-oriented approach to their work. Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, they will possess a solid understanding of computerized systems and hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
