Middle managers have a critical role in employee engagement and the culture of our organization. In this position, your leadership will be required in translating and cascading strategic direction into operational actions, contributing to the achievement of our goals. You will be responsible for delivering your own work, as well as the work of others for whom you have supervisory responsibilities.
In this position, you will:
- Enable individual performance of individuals on your team, ensuring adequate resources and motivation to achieve success;
- Manage teams and relationships by creating an environment of trust, equity, and strong workplace culture;
- Facilitate collaboration by creating and maintaining effective and valuable work relationships, making connections between various programs and initiatives for organizational efficiency; and
- Manage the administration of policies and procedures.
The Opportunity
The Financial and Administrative Services team within the Public Service Commission is looking for someone who is dedicated to service excellence, collaborates, works as one team, and is passionate about providing forecasting, budgeting and financial expertise to the organization.
As the Manager, Finance and Administration, you will be responsible for:
- Leading a small team of financial staff to support the needs of the Public Service Commission, including:
- Preparing accounting entries;
- Preparing year-end schedules;
- Reconciling account balances;
- Providing financial advice to branches;
- Completing financial analysis;
- Providing financial training on forecasting, purchase cards, contracts, etc.; and
- Coordinating the preparation of the monthly financial forecasts and the corresponding presentations to management.
- Supporing the annual budget development process;
- Coaching employees to expand their knowledge and to reach their full potential;
- Supporting employees as they learn a new financial system;
- Researching and providing recommendations on financial issues; and
- Identifying and implementing process improvements as needed.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced finance and administration professional who:
- Has a strong background in financial management, accounting and/or budgeting and forecasting;
- Has demonstrated experience delivering excellent client service;
- Has excellent interpersonal skills, fostering productive and positive working relationships;
- Communicates with confidence, clarity and effectiveness;
- Has experience successfully leading process improvement projects; and,
- Has experience coaching and mentoring employees while maintaining accountability within the team.
Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience required for this position would be acquired through:
- The completion of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, ideally with a focus on accounting; and
- Experience leading a team and/or leading projects within the finance and administration realms.
An accounting designation, such as a CPA, is preferred. Knowledge of public sector accounting and the Financial Administration Manual (FAM) is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
