Who we are:
Canadian Mental Health Association Durham is an integrated community mental health and primary care hub that has been providing mental health services to Durham Region for over 60 years.
During that time, it has evolved to provide a broad range of services to individuals and their families experiencing mental health challenges, from information and education to case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, housing and primary healthcare. These services are provided through inter-professional teams focused on providing clinically based services that, in addition to dealing with client mental health issues, address social determinants of health using the recovery model.
Purpose of the Position:
The Senior IT Systems Support Specialist provides day-to-day technical support and maintenance for organizational IT systems, including hardware, software, networks, and user accounts. This role ensures the smooth operation and reliability of end-user systems and core infrastructure, supporting on-site and remote staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide first- and second-level technical support to users (desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, applications)
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues, escalating to senior staff or vendors when needed
- Manage and monitor user accounts, permissions, and access via Active Directory or equivalent systems
- Support the setup, deployment, and configuration of new systems and devices
- Monitor system performance and logs; perform routine maintenance and updates
- Maintain asset inventory and ensure proper lifecycle management
- Assist with backups, recovery testing, and antivirus/patch management
- Document support procedures, FAQs, and system configurations
- Participate in IT projects, migrations, or system upgrades
- Ensure compliance with organizational IT policies and security standards
- Other duties as assigned by management
Client Safety
Adhere to CMHA Durham client safety programs including program policies as well as infection control and prevention procedures. In partnership with clients, family members, and fellow staff, maintain open lines of communication to assist the organization in identifying and achieving quality outcomes for client safety. Report client safety incidents and suggested improvements to manager or delegate.
Risk Management
Minimizes risks adhering to CMHA Durham Policies and Procedures identifying, assessing, evaluating and controlling risks ensuring well-being of staff and clients
Other Duties as Assigned

Attend, participate in team meetings and all employee meetings

Participate in organizational quality improvement activities, e.g. accreditation projects, committee work, special events

Participate in quality improvement activities at the team/program level

Participate in external committees as required

Post Secondary degree (e.g. Bachelor’s Degree) in Information Technology, Computer Science, and/or relevant field and/or equivalent combination of education, experience and/or lived/life experiences is required

Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT support or systems administration

Certificates with a cybersecurity focus preferred

Training or certification on Intune required

Experience with M365, Defender, Pervue and remote support tools required
-
Proficiency in Windows and/or macOS environments required

Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)

Familiarity with Active Directory, virtualization, and backup solutions

Ability to adapt quickly to change and deal with sudden urgent issues
-
Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
-
Good communication (written and verbal), organizational and interpersonal skills
-
Ability to be flexible, prioritize, manage multiple tasks and effectively coordinate project resources

Demonstrated ability to work independently and the ability to be creative to find solutions to problems

Strong proficiency with Windows Server (AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO)

Experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, or Proxmox.

Exposure to cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, particularly in IaaS and identity management.

Knowledge of endpoint protection, patch management, and firewall configuration.

Familiarity with frameworks like NIST, ISO 27001, or CIS Benchmarks is an asset
-
Experience configuring and testing backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Acronis).

Working knowledge of tools like Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.

Valid driver’s license required

Fluency in oral and written French is an asset

Work outside of normal business hours as required
WORKING CONDITIONS

Works on site in an open office setting and regularly off site in the community in public environments with some exposure to abusive/irate clients, deadlines, multiple demands, distractions/Interruptions and occasionally work schedules affecting personal or family lifestyle
