About the role

Cross-Border Financial Planner (Remote – Canada-wide)

MCA CROSS BORDER ADVISORS INC.

MCA Cross Border Advisors Inc. is a rapidly growing and specialized cross-border financial planning practice. The firm is a leader in helping Canadians moving to the U.S., Americans moving to Canada, and professionals relocating between the two countries. We guide clients through complex tax, estate, retirement, health, insurance, investment, and immigration issues at one of the most intricate intersections in financial planning.

This is not your typical financial planning role.

We are one of the few firms offering true, in-depth financial planning — but with a specialized twist: we operate at the intersection of the Canadian and U.S. tax and financial systems. This cross-border complexity demands the highest level of planning skill, analytical thinking, and precision. Our planners are not just great with numbers — they’re strategic problem-solvers who can translate intricate technical issues into clear, actionable guidance for high-net-worth individuals and families navigating international transitions.

Bonus Track: If you are licensed (or willing to become licensed) as a portfolio manager, you may have the opportunity to expand your role into investment advisory — with a potential long-term path into MCA’s investment division.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and deliver advanced written financial plans addressing U.S.-Canada tax, retirement, estate, health care, and investment issues
  • Lead and support client meetings, clearly communicating recommendations and strategies
  • Continuously evaluate client needs and proactively suggest planning improvements
  • Contribute to our internal planning tools, models, and thought leadership publications
  • Stay ahead of changes in tax law and planning strategies through active research and self-study
  • Participate in webinars, seminars, and potential business development opportunities
  • Work closely with other teams across tax, investment, and operations to implement solutions

Who You Are

  • A credentialed financial planner (CFP® Canada and/or U.S. preferred) with a passion for cross-border complexity
  • 3+ years of experience building comprehensive financial plans, ideally in an HNW setting
  • A superior communicator — articulate, client-focused, and confident in writing and presenting
  • Naturally curious and analytical, with excellent attention to detail
  • Self-directed and resourceful — you know how to drive outcomes
  • Advanced designations (CPA, CFA, CIM, TEP, Master’s in Tax) or PM licensing would be considered an asset

Why MCA

  • Join an elite team in a niche, growing market with minimal competition
  • Work directly with firm leadership and high-profile clients
  • Enjoy a remote setup with flexibility and autonomy
  • Contribute to a firm with a strong culture of learning, excellence, and collaboration
  • Potential career paths beyond planning — including strategy, thought leadership, or investment management

Salary

Compensation will be discussed based on experience and credentials.

This is a remote position open to candidates anywhere in Canada.

For those located in Montreal or Toronto , optional in-office work is available — but not required.

There are many factors that go into a change in residency between Canada and the US. MCA Cross Border Advisors Inc. has extensive experience working with Canadians moving to the US, Americans moving to Canada, or employees being relocated between both countries. A move of this nature is complex as it involves understanding laws in multiple jurisdictions and how they interact. It is our experience that prior to making a decision of this nature it is prudent to prepare a Cross Border Financial Plan to address these concerns and in order to ensure a smooth transition of residency while minimizing tax and avoiding costly mistakes.
