ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

This role reports to Dr. Kent Mullinix, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Food Systems.

SUMMARY

The Research Assistant has a supportive role in carrying out research and administrative support under the supervision of ISFS Director and research associates. This is an educational role with the intent of providing learning opportunities and practical training to the intern. Under the support of an academic advisor, this intern will work with a select industry partner to investigate issues of interest such as food system labour challenges, supply chain vulnerability and food system resiliency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in primary and secondary data collection for the research project as outlined in the Mitacs internship proposal
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and other documents as required
  • Attend research team meetings and stakeholder meetings as required
  • Provide support to ISFS research team and other departmental events as required
  • Any other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution in BC or graduated from a post-secondary institution in BC within the past two years
  • Has an interest in learning more about British Columbia’s food systems
  • Preferably studying in agriculture, policy studies, accounting, economics, horticulture, environmental protection, or related fields
  • Ability to use basic office technologies effectively and to adapt to new technologies that may be introduced
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Positive, professional, and collaborative attitude and demeanor

Anticipated hourly pay rate: $18.79 - $25.77
