Department Information

The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.

Job Information

The Senior Communications Officer and Official Languages Coordinator designs coordinates monitors and evaluates the implementation of a full range of official language communications and services developed by the Department of Justice in accordance with the Government of Northwest Territories Strategic Plan on French Language Communications and Services, and the Department's Operational Plan for French and the Official Languages Act. The Advisor is also responsible for advice and support related to the other official languages of the NWT. These duties are carried out in accordance with guidelines and policies, the NWT Official Languages Act and the Canada-NWT Cooperation Agreement for French and Aboriginal Languages of the NWT.

Typically, the above qualifications are attained by a degree in specialized communications discipline such as journalism, or public/media relations or a similar equivalent, and three (3) years of experience in a relevant field.

Equivalencies: a relevant diploma supplemented by four (4) years of experience in the communications field. All other equivalencies will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
