Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Senior Business Analyst for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Information Technology Services department.

As a key member of the Project Management Office (PMO), the Senior Business Analyst works across multiple projects and initiatives and builds a bridge between a business problem and the technology solution, outlining each of the phases and requirements needed to make the solution work. You will serve as a liaison between the business areas and IT, with responsibility for eliciting business requirements, translating them into actionable IT requirements, assessing project impacts, and seeking opportunities for process improvement and innovation. You will also support the adoption and sustainment of changes by developing and delivering training sessions and related reference materials. The position contributes to improving project efficiency, standardizing project and business analysis methodologies, and aligning projects with strategic goals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Engaging with multiple stakeholders across various business units and at varying levels within the institution, including academic departments and administrative units, to conduct business requirements gathering through mediums such as stakeholder interviews, workshops, and documentation reviews;
  • Analyzing and documenting short-term and longer-term business requirements, processes, goals, and objectives to help determine how systems can best meet those needs; navigating competing priorities, aligning diverse perspectives, and synthesizing insights to inform solution design and decision-making;
  • Mapping current and future state processes to support operational efficiency and digital transformation;
  • Evaluating current business systems, processes, workflows, data flows, technical systems and integrations and user needs related to specific projects to understand the business challenges and identify bottlenecks, redundancies, and areas for optimization;
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement, optimization, and innovation to enhance efficiency and business operations;
  • Working with Relationship Managers to determine if there are conflicts with other ongoing technology initiatives to ensure proper sequencing and prioritization of activities;
  • Defining, documenting, evaluating, and prioritizing comprehensive requirements for initiatives that span multiple business units or technologies;
  • Leading cross-functional collaboration with other projects or programs to validate business needs, ensuring alignment between related initiatives, and avoiding duplication of effort and conflicting solutions;
  • Building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders across the university and serving as a bridge between business stakeholders and IT to ensure alignment on project objectives; and
  • Leading the development and implementation of frameworks and methodologies that shape the direction of business analysis practices at MacEwan.

SKILLS

You will have:

  • Proven experience with business analysis methodologies, frameworks, and tools;
  • Strong knowledge and experience in requirements gathering, business process modeling, user interface design, and advanced data analysis;
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a creative and innovative approach to finding solutions;
  • Knowledge and experience in determining the explicit and implicit needs and requirements of various stakeholders;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders to achieve target outcomes;
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to set and manage customer expectations;
  • Flexibility in the face of ambiguous situations, shifting demands, and challenging work environments;
  • The ability to present ideas and solutions in business-friendly and user-friendly language;
  • Strong organizational skills with a dedication to detail and accuracy;
  • Strong analytical skills and business acumen, with the ability to quickly understand complex business processes and systems;
  • The ability to balance competing priorities and manage complex initiatives;
  • The ability to work effectively within a team environment;
  • A solid understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and business analysis techniques; and
  • Experience with requirements management tools, such as JIRA, Confluence, or similar platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Business Analytics or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in business analysis, process improvement, IT project management, or a related role within a complex environment with multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working on concurrent projects spanning multiple business areas, business processes, and technical environments.
  • Knowledge and experience with the post-secondary education sector, including academic and administrative systems (e.g., Learning Management Systems, Student Information Systems, ERP, etc.
  • Certification(s) in business analysis (i.e., CCBA, CBAP, etc.) would be considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
