The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Cultural Development, the Communications & Cultural Development Intern supports the promotion of library services, programs, and collections. The successful candidate will assist with creating marketing materials, maintaining digital platforms, and community engagement initiatives. The role will also contribute to the planning and execution of a large-scale fundraising event. The role provides hands-on experience in communications/PR, social media, and event coordination in a public library setting, supporting professional development for students in a co-op program.

As the Intern, Communications & Cultural Development (Co-op), you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Assist in delivering quality services to library users and maintaining a positive image for the library.
  • Support the creation and distribution of promotional materials for library services, programs, and events using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Assist in managing and posting content on the library’s social media channels (Instagram and Facebook) to engage online audiences.
  • Contribute to the creation of visual content (text, graphics, photos) for print and digital communications.
  • Assist in coordinating special events and engagement activities within library branches and in the community.
  • Provide courteous and accurate customer service to library patrons in person, by phone, or electronically.
  • Stay informed about trends in communications, marketing, social media, and graphic design.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an enthusiastic student who is returning in January 2026 to a post-secondary degree program in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field and/or related credentials. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of 1-2 years in a customer service role.

The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of marketing, communications, or social media strategies gained through coursework or projects and basic proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva. We are seeking an individual with superior interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively work in a team environment and/or independently.

The successful candidate for Intern, Communications & Cultural Development (Co-op) will be required to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends in the office (as required).

This position offers an hourly rate of $30.00.

Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
