About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Through ongoing exploration success, Island Gold District’s Mineral Reserves and Resources have continued to grow in size and quality. Role Overview/Purpose:
Reporting to the Occupational Health Nurse and Employee Wellness Supervisor the OHN provides first aid/primary care, occupational and personal health consultation, health education, emergency services and workplace rehabilitation to all employees. Work is performed under general direction and assigned in terms of specific objectives to be achieved. Requires considerable initiative and judgment in delivering results. Work often requires the ability to handle more than one assignment at a time. Resolves problems requiring judgment to select a solution from a number of alternatives. Work is reviewed in terms of attainment of objectives, adherence to general policies, accuracy of methods and general efficiency. Work may have significant impact on decision making.
Primary Responsibility & Duties
- Efficiently and professionally evaluate and treat all injuries and illnesses within the scope of practice to employees and contractors
- Manage WSIB claims, modified work plans, worker rehabilitation and related correspondence for both Occupational and Non-Occupational events.
- Manage short term and long-term disability benefits.
- Assist departments with implementing and evaluating return to work options for workers requiring modifications.
- Organize and administer worker health education, and counselling services, including EAP and worker Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation programs.
- Complete and/or coordinate various workplace testing programs including but not limited to Respirator Fit testing, Drug and Alcohol testing, Chest X-Rays, Spirometry and Audiometric testing.
- Maintain strict confidentiality with employee personal information.
- Champion employee health and wellness initiatives at site.
- Conduct Standard First Aid and CPR C Training and Mental Health First Aid Training onsite.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
- Be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Hold a designation in Occupational Health Nursing or willingness to acquire would be an asset.
- BScN Designation
- Valid Standard &/or Advanced First Aid / CPR certificate Instructor Certification would be an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an RN
- Minimum of 2 years occupational health experience
- Ability to plan and schedule programs and activities
- The individual should have demonstrated a high level of energy, self-motivation and strong organizational skills.
- Excellent inter-personal skills together with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort.
- Good communication skills, both orally and written with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
- Self-starter who is able to anticipate needs and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is preferred.
The schedule for this position is based in a camp operation working on a defined rotation schedule. 7days on / 7 days off.
