WHAT THE ROLE PROVIDES YOU:

We offer semi-fixed schedules that may change based on agency needs, paid training, access to a community of practice, coaching, Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), WCB, free parking, mileage where applicable, and statutory holidays.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Completion of expressive and receptive communications assessments
-
Evaluate hearing and speech/language results and medical or background information to develop communication support plan strategies for clients
-
Implement, monitor, and evaluate effective communications plans and all related paperwork
-
Provide training for employees in communication theory including the use of strategies, tools, methods, and critical thinking skills regarding support to clients
-
Apply a multimodal approach that considers all forms of communication
-
Teach clients to control or strengthen tongue, jaw, face muscles, breathing, and swallowing mechanisms
-
Provide support and resources for employees, clients, and networks regarding communication strategies
-
Design, develop, and employ alternative communication devices and strategies
-
Support client networks to ensure consistent program delivery
-
Attend network meetings with other professionals who provide or assist client supports
-
Keep up to date on DDRC policies and procedures to ensure Agency compliance with CET standards
-
Provide mentoring, coaching, direction and support to DDRC staff to implement alternative communications strategies for clients with developmental disabilities

Remain current in communication strategies to support DDRC clients
-
Develop and implement communication support plans
-
Knowledge of Creating Excellence Together (CET) standards relevant to client support while ensuring Agency compliance with CET standards

Remain current in issues related to persons with developmental disabilities
-
Act as a liaison with external agencies regarding available training and fees for the development associated with appropriate service plan
-
Liaise with clients, DDRC staff, external agencies, partners and businesses while maintaining a customer service orientated environment
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:
-
A graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology
-
A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with persons with developmental disabilities which includes the knowledge and application of effective communication principles, interventions, and strategies
-
Have completed or willing to complete the FSCD’s Private Provider training
-
Strong knowledge and understanding of Creating Excellence Together standards and relevant legislation (FOIP & PIPA)
-
Strong knowledge and understanding of Pro-lo-quo and software related to augmentative and alternative communications
-
Proficient in MS Office, with particular emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Demonstrated knowledge, experience and effectiveness in:
o Developing and applying a communications support plan in response to varying abilities
o Knowledge of paper-based visuals & American Sign Language (ASL)
o Training and mentoring staff in effective communications strategies
o The application of critical thinking and facilitation skills
o Building agreement and consensus within support networks regarding plans and their strategies
o Report writing -ability to pull together information and write a clear, understandable support plan and other reports as required
