Position Summary
We’re looking for a creative, strategic, and relationship-driven Communications Specialist to join our team! If you’re passionate about connecting people and services, crafting compelling stories and driving collaboration, this role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the voice of the Hastings Prince Edward Ontario Health Team (HPE OHT) and Quinte Health.

You’ll work closely with the HPE OHT Strategic Implementation Lead, project co-leads, and other key partners to develop and execute communication strategies that foster a culture of collaboration and transparency. Your work will help bring healthcare initiatives to life, making sure the right messages reach the right people in ways that resonate.
This role is all about connection—building strong relationships with teams, leaders, and partner organizations to create and share information in a way that’s clear, engaging, and impactful. You’ll be a core part of both the HPE OHT team and the Quinte Health Communications Department.
Location: Hybrid. Work from home, combined with attending in person meetings, and project meetings at various partner organizations across Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week. Mostly weekday office hours, with some flexible hours required to support program needs and special events.

Required
- Education & Experience: Post-secondary diploma or degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in a communications role, preferably in healthcare or a related sector.
- Creative Vision: Strong design skills with experience transforming information into clear, visually engaging content.
- Tech-Savvy Approach: Comfort with digital platforms including website management (Wix and Word Press), Adobe products, Microsoft Office, and virtual collaboration tools like Teams and Zoom.
- Storytelling Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft engaging messages for diverse audiences.
- Strategic Thinking: Experience developing and implementing communication plans that align with organizational goals.
- Organizational Agility: Ability to juggle multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to the ever-changing healthcare landscape.
- Collaborative Spirit: A natural relationship-builder who thrives in a team environment and enjoys working with diverse stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and care in crafting and delivering communication materials.
- Knowledge of Healthcare Landscape: Understanding of Ontario’s healthcare system is an asset.
Duties
- Inform & Navigate: Help the public understand available health services and how to navigate the healthcare system, making it easier for individuals to access the care they need.
- Engage & Connect: Cultivate strong relationships across the healthcare community, building trust and fostering collaboration through clear and engaging communication.
- Create & Share: Develop compelling content for websites, newsletters, presentations, media relations, social media, and print/digital materials.
- Lead & Support: Act as the first point of contact for communications requests, ensuring timely and effective responses.
- Advise & Guide: Provide strategic communication support to leadership teams and project leads, helping translate complex information into digestible and engaging narratives.
- Manage & Optimize: Maintain and enhance the HPE OHT website, internal SharePoint, and contact distribution lists to ensure information is accurate and up to date.
- Measure & Improve: Track the effectiveness of communication initiatives and suggest ways to improve reach and impact.
- Plan & Execute: Support community engagement events, special projects, and strategic initiatives that enhance awareness and participation.
- Be the Voice: Handle media inquiries as needed, supporting leadership in delivering clear and confident messages.

Quinte Health provides a wide range of high quality health care services to 160,000 people living in the 7000 square kilometre region of Prince Edward and Hastings Counties and the southeast portion of Northumberland County.
Care is provided through four hospitals - Belleville General Hospital, North Hastings Hospital, Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital and Trenton Memorial Hospital - and includes four emergency departments, operating rooms at three sites, a rehabilitation day hospital, children's treatment centre, ambulatory care clinics, community mental health programs and a range of diagnostic services. There are inpatient beds for acute medical patients, intensive care, obstetrics, paediatrics, mental health, complex continuing care, rehabilitation and surgery.
Our 1700 staff members, along with 364 professional staff with privileges including doctors, nurse practitioners and mid-wives, provide primary and secondary patient care. Through partnership and innovation, the teams at the four hospitals of Quinte Health provide exceptional health care services to the residents of the area, close to home.
Our vision over the next five years is to foster healthier, more connected people and communities.
