Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director, Experiential Learning (EL), the Placement Coordinator plans, develops, promotes, coordinates, implements, and maintains on-campus and off-campus experiential learning opportunities for students; including, but not limited to, research-based projects, placements, and co-ops. The Placement Coordinator ensures that the EL opportunities provided at Loyalist College meet program curricular requirements and support students in their learning journey. The Placement Coordinator collaborates and works cooperatively with members of the Office of EL team, relevant members of the senior academic team, Program Coordinators, Faculty members, industry partners, and others involved in the delivery and monitoring of EL to ensure that learners are prepared for the workforce and that they are supported in meaningful experiential learning opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruits, develops, and secures EL opportunities each semester for assigned programs.
  • Maintains existing partnerships with industry partners; and seeks out new sites by researching, prospecting, and identifying emerging areas.
  • Works directly with students engaged in experiential learning in the collection and verification of pre-EL clearance requirements required for the programs they support.
  • Liaises with other team members and employees supervising students to monitor that the confirmed EL environment affords students the opportunity to meet the course learning outcomes.
  • Collaborates with the Director, Experiential Learning, Program Coordinators, Faculty, or others as needed, to resolve issues pertaining to suitability of EL setting and potential conflicts.
  • Informs students of EL process in-province, out-of-province, and abroad as well as pre-EL clearance requirements for on-campus and off-campus EL.
  • Reviews and adheres to policies and procedures and provides information to prepare students for the search and application process for industry ELs.
  • Notifies and provides continuous updates to the Director, Experiential Learning, regarding concerns with academic misconduct as it relates to approval of EL and behaviours leading to EL terminations.
  • Supports the development of materials used to attract and retain industry partners to support experiential learning opportunities for students.

Qualifications

  • Two-year diploma or equivalent in a relevant field, including but not limited to Health Sciences, Skilled Trades, Applied Science, Business, Justice Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies or related field
  • Two (2) years of recent and related experience supporting experiential learning and placement programs in post-secondary environment preferred. This includes working with external placement partners, students, communicating and applying regulatory information, using a Student Information System (SIS) and/or a similar on-line database.
  • Confident with technology, including experience with database management, share file platforms (i.e. SharePoint, Dropbox, OneDrive), learning management systems (LMS), spreadsheets and word processing (MS Suites)
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
  • Solid understanding of the principles of Adult Education is considered an asset
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, respond to questions and concerns
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a team, network with community partners, meet deadlines, and work under pressure
  • Demonstrated experience working in and contributing to a dynamic team environment
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills that involve complex situations and multiple stakeholders
  • Initiative and the ability to organize and complete work assignments
  • Understanding of College’s academic and administrative operations is an asset
  • Awareness of College supports for students and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of internal college stakeholders is an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an equitable and inclusive environment
